The capital of Texas, Austin is a city of opportunity and natural beauty. It’s known for its incredible arts and culture, as well as its historical museums and fascinating history. Established in the early 1800s as the state’s capital, it’s gone through immense amounts of growth throughout the years. One thing that has remained the same, though, is the fact that Austin is an amazing place for growing families. There are some neighborhoods, in particular, that stand out above all the rest in terms of local schools, essential amenities, and shopping.
The number one neighborhood for growing families, Allandale is located in North Central Austin. It's surrounded by big box stores and shopping centers, many of which are within 10 minutes or less. Walmart Supercenter, the Allandale Shopping Center, and Northcross Mall are some of the most convenient places to shop in Allandale.
In addition to convenient local amenities, schools are just as easy to find and get to. Read Schools, Gullett Elementary School, and Austin Montessori School are just three of many in the area. Parks and greenbelts are prevalent in Allandale, too, and are ideal for short walks, picnic, and family fun. These include Beverly S Sheffield Northwest District Park, Lucy Read School Park, and Gullett School Park.
Like Allandale, Brentwood is encompassed by green spaces and parks. It’s a little bit busier, though, especially in the eastern areas of the neighborhood. It’s well-established and full of quiet bungalows and has a mixture of both older mid-century modern style homes and new construction. The area itself is quite trendy and full of fun throughout the year and there are often annual events and local festivals to take part in.
Brentwood has a neighborhood association, which protects it and its residents from crime and helps maintain a healthy and lively atmosphere. The neighborhood offers various family-friendly opportunities, including sports fields, tennis courts, playing fields, and so much more.
One of the quietest neighborhoods, as well as one of the most beautiful, Rollingwood is ideal for small established families who are looking for a quiet space away from the city. Charming roads wind elegantly through the neighborhood, with some of them ending in private cul-de-sacs. Evergreens line the streets and tower over single-family dwellings and small estates.
In the center of Rollingwood rests Rollingwood Park and Rollingwood Community Playground. These spaces are perfect for established families of various ages. Other parks and places you and your family can enjoy includes the Zilker Nature Preserve and Treemont Park. With the dense population of trees in the neighborhood, you’re bound to forget that Downtown Austin is less than five miles away.
Leander is one of the more rural neighborhoods in Austin, but it’s still very close to essential amenities, transit options, and schools. In the center of Leander, residents can take full advantage of the Gateway Shopping Center at Leander. Here, you can find everything from Lowe’s Home Improvement to Kohl’s Leander.
While single-family homes dominate Leander’s real estate market, apartments and low rise condos can still be found in the more central areas. These areas also boast public services such as the Leander Public Library and the LiveOak Church. Kids can enjoy the Northwest Soccer Club, which is run by professionals and has one of the finest soccer fields in Austin.
