Austin Events, Spring 2018
At Keller Williams Austin, we love springtime in Central Texas. Though March comes in like a lion, as they say, we know that it'll go out like a lamb—and there's so much to do once the city starts to shake off the frost and get moving again. From one of the largest music festivals in the country to several events celebrating the best of local food and drink, Austin might just be one of the best places to be this spring. There's plenty for families too—flying kites, finger painting, and egg hunts are just around the corner. And if you're looking for something a bit more subdued, it's the perfect time to start on that garden too.

With that in mind, here are some of the best events to check out during spring in Austin, Texas:

The 89th Annual ABC Kite Fest

One of Austin's most long-standing family traditions, ABC Kite Fest takes place each March in Zilker Park. This free, all-day event isn't just about flying kites—though they certainly take center stage. There's also a children's concert, a fun run, and an activity center that's sure to keep your little ones soaring high. This year's festival takes place on Sunday, March 4th, starting at 11:30 AM.

Starting Friday, March 9th and running until Tuesday, March 13th, this year's South by Southwest Interactive Festival is about more than just music. From a gaming expo to film and comedy, there's a reason SXSW attracts so many people to Austin each year. Of course, more than 2,000 performers from 63 different countries have also helped to transform the city's bars, parks, hotels, and even churches into showcases for some of the world's most talented musicians across dozens of genres.

Rodeo Austin

This unique celebration of Lone Star state and our western heritage, Rodeo Austin began in 1938 and has evolved from a small stock how into one of the city's most exciting events. This year's rodeo runs betwwen March 10th and 24th and includes championship bareback riding, steer wrestling, and bullfighting as well as a carnival, livestock show, and a concert series that goes far beyond country—though there's plenty of that too, if you're interested!

Zilker Garden Festival

Who says it's too early to start working on your garden. The Zilker Garden Festival runs March 24-25 and is your destination for your spring gardening needs. This is your chance to attend gardening talks, visit dozens of flower shops, and buy tools, pottery, decor, and more. Live music and activities for the kids are also part of the fun.

Austin International Poetry Festival

For 26 years, the Austin International Poetry Festival has helped demonstrate the power of the written and spoken word and reinforced Austin's status as a city of letters. A number of local, national, and international poets will be gathering together at AIPF to share work that's new and old. With so many diverse voices gathered in one place, it's a literary experience unlike any other you are likely to have.
